  • The two largest birds are Indian Golden Orioles, a species found in southern and central Asia. The many other birds in the painting are all depicted in pairs. Such studies were based on earlier Mughal paintings, which themselves are based on European botanical works. Some artists from the Mughal court in Delhi moved to Murshidabad and Lucknow during the 18th century and developed this more austere and slightly static style of painting.(March 2022)
