Akbar died in 1605 and his tomb was completed in 1614. It consists of five tiered stories of which the top floor is an open-air courtyard enclosed on all four sides by marble screens. In the centre of this stands Akbar’s white marble cenotaph carved with floral motifs and the 99 names of God. The angle of this painting captures the grand nature of the building with its multitude of arches and pillars.
