Archer's Thumb Ring

This archer's thumb ring would have been used to protect the wearer from abrasion or injury by the bowstring as the arrow was released. It has been fashioned in nephrite jade which is a hard and durable material and is ideally suited for the purpose. The quality of this ring, both in the workmanship and in the material used indicates it would have been made for a person of some status. It was made in either Iran or within the Mughal empire.
