Cylindrical casket with lid, copper, gilded and engraved. The casket hinge a later replacement.
Marks and inscriptions
  • Latin, engraved round the rim of the lid: + INTVS PORTATVR PER QVOT [sic, probably 'quod'] MVNDVS SM-SIA [inscription obscured by the lid hinge]
    Translation
    Inside [a thing] is carried by which the world
  • Latin, engraved around the rim of the underside of the casket: CREDEMTIM [sic for 'credentium'?] MAGNVM TOLLIT PECCATA P[er] ANV[m]
    Translation
    It takes away the sins of the believers for a whole year.
Gallery label
