PILASTER FROM A PRAYER-NICHE (MIHRAB)
Earthenware painted in lustre, blue and green.
Said to have come from a mosque near Isfahan.
On both sides of the pilaster flanking the niche are Koranic inscriptions, running upwards on the column to the right, downwards on the column to the left (which is the one here shown).
A damaged section has been replaced by a piece from the missing right-hand column.
PERSIAN(KASHAN); late 13th or early 14th century.
