Object history
This painting is from an album containing over 200 pictures showing Chinese men and women engaged in various occupations, the full album numbered D.1222 to 1479-1886. The subjects include head-dresses and coiffures, processions, manners and customs, punishments and tortures.
Purchased from Maggs Bros., accessioned in 1900. This acquisition information reflects that found in the Asia Department registers, as part of a 2022 provenance research project.
