Fire Maker's bracelet of sterling silver. The open-ended bracelet has rounded ends and carries the word 'WOHELO' in Tsimshiam Indian lettering voided on a hammered ground. Candidates for the rank of Fire Maker had to be at least fourteen, to have been a Wood Gatherer for at least a year, and to have passed the requirements listed in the hand book.

Object history | 'British Camp Fire Girls' handbook (B.392-1997) issued in an enlarged version by the British movement's national headquarters in London. Dr Luther H Gulick & his wife Charlotte founded the movement in the USA in 1912; the British movement followed in 1921. See B.2-1994 (another gown); B.387, 388, 390,391-1997 & copy prints of Edith Harris in her gown. Awarded to the donor's mother, Edith Harris (born circa 1908), who eventually became a Camp Fire Guardian (i e adult leader). |
