6. 90 x 62 cm (unfolded)

Baby's pram ("Svithun" brand):collapsible body and frame; detachable hood and apron; and zip-fastening bag; pram blanket (the last of these was supplied by the retailer).
1. collapsible frame of tubular chrome-plated steel: the chassis has two transverse stretchers and a foot-operated brake; the four equally-sized wheels are of chrome-plated steel with matching mudguards and hubcaps, and rubber composition tyres. The fold-down arched handle (which has a ribbed plastic grip and two metal hooks to carry the bag [5]) is riveted to the X-shaped side sections, with two sliding metal rings to stabilise it; the frame has an ovoid tubular metal hoop and a transverse metal bar to carry the body shell (2).
2. collapsible ovoid body with a metal frame covered in blue textured vinyl with a white vinyl lining, and a white-painted hardboard and wood base with three ventilation holes, and exterior beading of metal and cream vinyl. The upcurving sides have a padded bar at the upper edge, and are erected by sliding four two-piece metal arms into slots in the base and anchoring them there with plastic and metal stops against the arms. At each end is a curved metal bar which fits over the edge of the frame (1) between a pair of rubber composition guard rings.
3. detachable folding arched hood of matching fabric over a metal frame, with a white vinyl lining. The hood is erected by snapping rigid the two hinged metal side braces, and fastens to the frame (1) with three slot-in metal tabs, two of which are secured with retractable metal pegs; the metal hook at each side of the hood is to anchor the storm flap of the apron.
4. detachable apron of matching fabric with a white vinyl lining and a see-through panel in the storm-flap; the apron fastens to the pram with a pair of metal discs at each side and two pairs of rings on the storm-flap (one pair metal, one pair plastic) on lengths of elastic.
5. zip-fastening rectanguloid bag of matching fabric, with curved handles of ivory plastic. The bag is metal framed with a part lining of card fibreboard, and has a metal D-ring with a clip at each end, for attachment to the pram.
6. pram blanket of rose pink lambswool with a turned back top flap, and edged throughout with a frill of pink sateen ribbon. In the centre of the blanket is an appliquéd design of two rabbits (one in a blue sateen romper suit, the other in a tiered pink sateen dress) above a row of pale blue woollen flowers.

Object history
References: Mrs Gollard is a cousin of Mrs Cousins, whose children gave the museum their own pram, a Silver Cross/ Lawrence Wilson model of about 1954 (Misc.128-1992)

Mr & Mrs Gollard saw prams of this type when touring Switzerland, Italy & France on holiday in the 1950s, & vowed to have one when they started a family. They were unable to afford such a pram for their first daughter Kim (born 1956), but were able to buy this model for her sister Tracy Kay (b 11/10/1961), possibly from Percivals of Walthamstow High Street.
