This was the first single released by the Sex Pistols, and the only single released while they were signed to EMI. It reached number 38 on the UK Singles Chart, but the group were dropped by EMI soon after its release in November 1976, after they were imbroiled in a media scandal by swearing at television presenter Bill Grundy on live early evening television.
