John Paul Cooper (3 October 1869– 3 May 1933) was a British architect and a leading craftsman in the Arts and Crafts Movement, specialising in metalwork and jewellery. He made a significant contribution to the development of Arts & Crafts silver, metalwork and jewellery. His approach to decoration was magnificent and unusual. He used materials such as coconut shell, ostrich egg and shagreen (shark's skin) in combination with gold, silver, copper and semi-precious stones to create intricate and fanciful pieces inspired by natural forms, medieval architecture, myths and ancient symbols.

Physical description
Casket, shagreen dyed brown with silver mounts, hexagonal, straight sides, sloping lid, each section framed by a strip of silver (unmarked) resting on four ball feet. The silver mounts of cable work interspersed with rosettes, on the front panel a circular, crosshatched button to operate the lock within a circular frame which sits within a square border of cabblework and rosettes.
