Filigree was one of the most distinctive products of Spanish silversmiths in the 19th century. It was used particularly for traditional jewellery, such as earrings, crosses, and buttons. The bezel of this ring appears to have been made from a silver filigree button. It was bought for one shilling at the International Exhibition, London, 1872, as a typical ring from Astorga.

Physical description | Silver ring with a filigree bezel. The bezel consists of a flattened silver filigree sphere held in a flat cast frame which extends on each side over the ends of the shank. The frame and shoulders are decorated with diagonal grooves. |
