Ring
1800-1860 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
This type of ring, with a large central stone surrounded on each side by three smaller ones in closed settings, is called ‘a fiocco’ in Italy because of its resemblance to a bow. The rose cut of the stones, and the closed cusped setting, make it look 18th-century in date, but it is typical of Italian traditional rings from the 19th century, particularly those worn in the area around Rome.
It was bought as part of the Castellani collection of Italian Peasant Jewellery at the International Exhibition, Paris, 1867.
