Sixteen-page booklet, of portrait proportions, with covers, title page, six full-page colour illustrations and nine decorated recording pages, all designed by C M Burd. The full-page illustrations show a sleeping baby, a mother and child, a baby in a bath, a baby using a cup, a child peeping through the bars of its cot, and a child with a pet cat; the recording pages are for the birth details, weight, Christening, family (two pages), first tooth, mobility, early education and 'other events', and the user has also made a page of notes concerning food.

Object history
Given to the donor's mother, Margaret McQueen Grant-Govan (née Hamilton) before the birth of her first child, George ('Jinks') on 04/11/1914 (all the entries in the book relate to 'Jinks', but the birth of Enid [the donor] is recorded on the back cover). The book was distributed by T Mathias and Son of Putney, childrenswear retailers, and distributed free to their customers.
