Mrs MacKail was the daughter of the painter Edward Burne-Jones, and was married to J. W. MacKail who published a 'Life of William Morris' in 1899. This glass came in a gift that included pieces attributable to Philip Webb, and was probably also made for sale in William Morris's shop.
