Noddy is the most popular character created by children's author Enid Blyton (1897-1968). The first book, Little Noddy Goes to Toyland, was published in 1949 and was followed by twenty-three further titles. It has been estimated that 200 million Noddy books have been sold worldwide. Noddy has become a huge industry, spawning not only books and television series, but every conceivable item of merchadise from toys to duvet covers.
