Fritz Heckert specialised in glass like this which is imitating Indian damascened metalwork known as 'Bidri' ware from the area in which it is made, around Calcutta. These wares had been shown at international exhibitions since 1851 and were much admired and copied in glass, first by J & L Lobmeyr, Vienna, in 1873
