Historical context
The 'Barbie Loves McDonald's' restaurant play set featured in the 1983 Mattel toy dealer catalogue:

"Now Barbie doll can go to the very same restaurant where children love to eat! With over 30 great play pieces...Barbie Loves McDonald's looks just like a real McDonald's Restaurant! It's ideal for pretending to order, prepare, serve and eat McDonald's food! Order from the menu board, then "cook" hamburgers and french fries at the grill! There's even a spatula and fry basket! Put the burgers into their own special carton! Complete the order at the soda fountain. There are soft drink cups too! Place the food on special serving trays. Even pretend to pay at the cash registers! Barbie can even sit at the table & bench seats with friends & enjoy the food! All accessories can be packed into the restaurant. It's easy to carry and sets up anywhere! It's the perfect place for Barbie doll & her friends to go to eat!"
