Ring
1780-1820 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
Rings with oval or shuttle-shaped bezels, also called navette or marquise, became fashionable at the end of the 18th century as part of the trend called neo-classicism.
This marquise ring is set with glass pastes in a delicate floral pattern. The stones would have shone like diamonds when the ring was first made, but the metallic foil which was placed under each stone to make it shine has degraded, leaving them a soft grey in colour.
