Walnut chair, one of a pair with W.6-1966, with seat upholstered in plush. The legs are cabriole, of square section, with elongated shells carved on the front knees. The uprights of the back form elongated S-scrolls above a straight lower section, rising to a pierced, scrolled cresting that centres on an urn. The pierced, shaped splat and lower rail are carved with scrolls with a ground of overlapping scales.

Physical description
Walnut chair, one of a pair with W.6-1966, with seat upholstered in plush. The legs are cabriole, of square section, with elongated shells carved on the front knees. The uprights of the back form elongated S-scrolls above a straight lower section, rising to a pierced, scrolled cresting that centres on an urn. The pierced, shaped splat and lower rail are carved with scrolls with a ground of overlapping scales.

Given by Brigadier W.E. Clark CMG DSO, through the Art Fund. No earlier history is recorded. At the time of donation, Peter Thornton suggested that they were Dutch rather than English. He also pointed out that the front rail had been given a more exaggerated profile by the addition of a piece of wood to the front.
