Ark of clamped-front or hutch construction, with the front and back held in two stiles of quartered oak, secured by 3 pegs. The front formed by a single large riven board with two holes (for a latch rather than a lock), and the back formed by two planks that meet in a bird's mouth joint. The ends of 2 riven boards horizontally grained (the larger above the smaller) that meet in a bird's mouth joint, which are held in grooves cut on the inner surfaces of the stiles and the bottom board with a through-tenon. A separate outside 'rail' is through-tenoned into the stiles. With heavy dirt/old water residue on the surface.
