Mirror
1730-1740 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
Wall Mirror with wooden frame carved in relief and gilt. Pediment top enclosing a scallop shell flanked by fronts, above a fronded frieze centre on a male mask. Uprights scrolled towards the base and edged with husk-and-flower chains. Base decorated with festoons of leaves centered on a ribbon bow.
Alterations
This mirror has been shortened; there is a saw cut on each side of the frame near the bottom and there is no bevel on the bottom of the mirror plate. The frame has been re-gilt and the "pebble-dash" treatment of the uprights is not original. The mark in the centre of the top of the frame appears to be a later restoration.
