Object history
The SP1 chair was one of the first chairs to be made by Pel. It was probably first made in 1930 by Accles and Pollock's Paddock works before the foundation of Practical Equipment Ltd. The frames were then sent to the Birmingham Institute for the Blind, who wove on the cane or 'seagrass' seats. Probably made under the supervision of George Hackett (son of one of the Accles and Pollack directors, and later responsible for setting up PEL)
