Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Carved boxwood box, rectangular with convex lid, with steel mounts and lock and wooden pin to secure the lid. On both ends of the box drop handles are suspended from masks. The carved decoration on the front depicts four persons feasting in a room and on the back a double headed eagle. On the sides and top are lozenges enclosing flowers.

Dress: the men's and women's dress depicted is broadly accurate for the 1520s, with some allowance that the scene shows a relatively low status group, as suggested by hairstyles and heavy wear on some garments.
