Chair

1890-1920 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This description has been transcribed from the original register of 1969:
Bentwood chair with cane seat. The front legs curve slightly outwards and are composed of two pieces of bentwood pegged together, these separate at the top and curve round to form the lower tier of the seat rail. This curve leaves a gap at the top of the legs which is partly filled by an inverted piece of bentwood. The seat rail is plain and roughly circular above this lower tier. The back legs are attached to the outside of the seat rail by heavy screws passing through a metal plate from the inside; they rise to meet in a curve forming the back. The legs are connected by a band of bentwood below the seat rail. The back legs are braced by plain curved brackets as they rise above the seat rail. The back is filled by bentwood tracery in the rough shape of a heart filled with scrollwork. The seat is caned.
