Object history
The chair was designed for outdoor use at the Festival of Britain, 1951. It was shown at the Milan Triennale in 1954 when it was awarded a silver medal. Many thousands were supplied for the Festival of Britain, and the chair was still in production in 1970 when this example was acquired.
