Bibliographic references
  • Fred Roe, 'Ancient Carved Brackets', in The Connoisseur, December 1933, pp.355-61, fig. IV "...They are, however, executed with rather more care than the majority of outside brackets, and are most likely fragments of interior fittings. Apart from their decorative value, a quaint freak of fancy may be noted: the clever adaptation of the feathers covering the arms of the figures into the shape and cut of the fashionable hanging sleeve of the fifteenth century. The largeness of their hands is a fault common with the old designers."
  • Charles Tracy, English Medieval Furniture and Woodwork (London, 1988), cat. no. 41 Corbel, in the form of a half figure of an angel holding a crown, and supporting a moulded projection. From a Suffolk church Oak. 15th century 53.4X 25.61X10.4 cm Mus. no. W.24-1911 This figure is similar to the previous group of three in size and function (W.21-1911, W.22-1911, W23.1911). It does not seem to have come from the same church, however, as the moulded parapet is different in form and the author of the carving is clearly not the same.
