This doll has a bisque head, a common feature of ABG dolls, and also has a fine wardrobe. She is wearing a cream silk dress, a ruff, two petticoats, a vest, and drawers, some of which were probably made at a later date and added to the doll.

Brief description | bisque -headed doll with silk dress, made in Germany by Alt, Beck and Gottschalk; 1885-90 |
Physical description | The doll is wearing a cream silk dress lined with cotton and decorated with fine black braid which has faded in places to olive green. Around the neck is a white cotton ruff and at the centre back a black silk ribbon bow. The back is fastened with hooks and eyes. The dress is probably of the 1850s. There are a few repairs on the skirt. The petticoat is made of white handkerchief cotton with tucks and lace trim at hem. Another petticoat is made of flannel with linen waist band, and a blanket stitch around scalloped hem. The vest is knitted wool with pink ribbon threaded through upper body. The drawers are white cotton with broderie anglaise trim on the legs; tie fastening. |
