Brief description | Pair of chairs, carved mahogany with modern upholstery |
Physical description | Mahogany. Modern material on the seat, double nailed at the front. Splayed uprights join bow-shaped top to form ears in the typical English mid-18th century manner. Shallow scrollwork carving at the crest: openwork interlacing loops with floral scroll detailing, forming the splat. Straight legs in front with shallow mouldings: the back legs splayed backwards. Stretchers from back to front legs and one at right angles one quarter of their length back. Another stretcher joins the back legs at a higher leve. Castors have been fitted to these chairs at some period. |
