Place of origin

Handkerchief of embroidered lawn with white cotton in overcast, stem interlaced band and speckling stitches with some needlepoint filling stitches. The interlaced stitches are worked on the back of the fabric, giving the appearance of a second applied layer of material.

The delicate design of carnations and daisies, linked by a curved stem, runs round the edge of the handkerchief. In each corner there is a spray of flowers. There is a 2.25 inches border of Valenciennes bobbin lace with a small leaf design.
