Square, fold-over bridal shawl for tying over the shoulders, said to be for a Jewish bride. Made of white silk gauze with a embroidered, scalloped border design. Further embroidery to one half with sprigs and flowers in coloured silk threads, darned into the gauze. Gold thread work enhances the design, worked into the gauze to produce the effect of couching. German, 18th-19th century.
