ca. AD200-500 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
A panel from a linen cloth, tapestry woven in coloured wool (green, red and purple/maroon) and undyed linen. Egyptian, possibly Akhmim, ca. AD200-500. The design is of a vase/amphora with a tree growing out from the top. The tree has spade shaped leaves and a naked female sits at the top of the tree. Two birds are at the top of the vase (as though they have fallen from the tree) . The linen onto which it is woven (plain/tabby) is approx. 12 x 15 tpc, s-spun and with a relatively consistent thread dia. The piece has its edges folded over on three sides. There are some holes in the piece and a dob of what may be glue on one of the folded edges.
