Place of origin

Silk embroidered bobbin net veil for a bonnet. Large rectangular white veil of bobbin net needle-run with white floss silk in imitation of blond bobbin lace, and with pulled openwork holes imitating honeycomb filling. Outer edges are trimmed with applied machine-made picot edging.

The top edge is slightly scalloped with an applied band of net three inches below the edge to take a drawstring. The remaining edges are more deeply scalloped and each scallop is filled by a large curving leaf and small floral sprig. Above the lower border there is a second row of large sprays forming a deep border 14.5 inches (37 cms) deep, and composed of curling leaves and flowerheads. The remainder of the ground is decorated with rows of flowers 1.75 inches high.
