"WATCH SHOES"
Designed by Red or Dead (British)
Black leather with moulded rubber soles and wrist watch fastenings
Spring/Summer 1988

Wayne Hemingway began his career in 1982 selling used clothes in London's Camden Market. He quickly expanded, designing and marketing his own line of clothing, eventually making his name in shoes. His shop, Red or Dead, opened in 1987 specialising in irreverent, off-beat footwear. The "Watch Shoe" was Red or Dead's most sought after shoe for the summer of 1988 and characteristic of Hemingway's surreal approach to footwear design.

His shop now sells their own menswear line and a newly launched womenswear collection and has become that wonderful contradiction - an institution of avant garde fashion.
