Set of Curtains

ca. 1923 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Set of six hand woven silk and rayon curtains. They have a cream warp with a coarser rayon weft forming a broken twill. The rayon weft shades from a deep peach over the lower half, through orange, to a deepish blue at the curtain's top. The design consists of a large Chinese dragon brocaded across the centre in yellow rayon. Above, there are scattered, stylised cloud devices brocaded in mixtures of yellow, deepish blue and orange rayon.

Three curtains have dragons moving over the centre towards the left hand selvedges. The remaining three have their dragons moving in the reverse direction.
