Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Hand woven evening shawl of a warp of orange silk bordered by bands of blue silk with orange silk weft, forming a tabby ground. One end has a narrow striped band and a gryphon brocaded in rayon of two yellow shades and pale blue. Along the edges of the main field are simple, well spaced foliate trefoils and a single sprig. The other end has a similar striped band, but a supplementary magenta rayon weft darkens the ground on which two confronted gryphons are brocaded in pale blue rayon. Small crescents and trefoils brocaded in yellow rayon decorate the inter spaces.
