This hat was designed by George Mallard for the London couture designer Norman Hartnell. Mallard founded his own hat company, based in Ganton Street in 1954. Trading first under his own name and later as Malyard, Mallard's company grew to become one of London's leading milliners producing hats for both the wholesale and retail trade. Trading under the name of Malyard the company operated until the early 1980s when George Mallard retired.
