Place of origin |
Shawl of screen-printed silk. With a large-scale design in blue, pink, brown and green on a grey ground. Within an outer edge of dark blue is a wide border of intense sky blue, defined by ribbon stripes of brown and white with brown and green and pink rosettes at intervals, the outer stripe follows the rectangle of the shawl, and the inner stripe ends in oval curves with large flower heads which string from the inner side of the border. The oval ends to the central field and are filled with a large flower-star shape. The field is scattered with the small rosettes and green crescents bearing blue spots. At the two ends of the shawl, which are machine hemmed, is a knotted silk fringe about 10 inches long, and contains all the colours used in the printed design.
