Long roll of plain woven undyed linen. One end is a border with selvedge, the other end has been cut. The piece bears stains and dirt across.
The majority of the fabric is undyed linen, with blue and brown (poorly) dyed warp threads woven in for 2.5 cm at the border edge (alternating 2 blue blue warps, 2 undyed, 2 brown, 2 undyed, then 4 blue, 2 undyed, 2 undyed, 2 gold, then 53 blue warps).
Plain weave:
Linen warp (S-spun, 2 ply)
Linen weft (S-spun, 2 ply)
36x16 tpc
Thread diameter approximately 0.2-0.5mm

Object history | This object was historically catalogued as 'from a mummy wrapping'. The terminology was changed in line with current discussions that 'mummy' is no longer an appropriate term for refering to embalmed dead individuals from ancient Egypt. |
