WOMAN’S WOOL SUIT
Maria Grimaldi, 1950s
Wool gabardine with silk satin trim
A sartoria like Maria Grimaldi’s, where this suit was made, often took in apprentices who in exchange for a basic wage, would learn the fine points of dressmaking. Such an apprenticeship
was so useful that it was not uncommon for the apprentice’s parents to pay the dressmaker, in exchange for instruction.
