WINTER ENSEMBLE COAT Machine-knitted wool, acrylic, nylon and cotton SWEATER Machine-knitted wool TROUSERS Worsted BELT Leather and pony skin French, Paris: Jean Paul Gaultier, 1985 Several international designers have used the theme of Oriental carpet designs in their Autumn/Winter 1985 collections. Jean Paul Gaultier's loose fitting coat is even finished at the cuffs with a knotted fringe. The body of the coat is made in one piece (the knitting, in stocking stitch, is vertical) and the sleeves are inset. A plain, soft lambswool sweater and wide pin-striped trousers complete the outfit. Given by Monsieur Jean Paul Gaultier T.377 to C-1985 NB: Since this label text was written in 1985, the term 'Oriental' has since fallen from usage and is now considered offensive. The term is repeated here in its original context as a historic text.(1985)
