Place of origin |
Panel of gold braid and crimson silk. The panel is made up of 2 loom widths, and is edged with gold braid and backed with crimson silk. The pattern is woven in gold and silver thread and coloured silks on salmon pink satin ground. It has a bizzarre design composed of goblets, gourds, and decorative panels, carried out largely in metal thread. There are clusters of semi-natuiralistic small flowers at intervals across the silk. The flowers are chiefly pale green, white, mauve, and there are two repeats of the design (in a width of the material).
Technical details
Tissue, satin, ground and a binding warp taken from the ground, and the pattern is bound in 3/1 twill. Metal threads (filé & frisé). The silver is wound on a white silk core and the gold is a silver strip wound on a yellow silk core.
