Place of origin |
Small cover of brocaded silk damask. The cover has a salmon pink ground brocaded in selver-gilt thread and coloured silks. It has a pale blue lining and is edged with silver-gilt lace. The silk has a bizarre design with exotic fruit and leaves in gold thread twisting around a vertical stripe. Some details of the design are carried by the damask ground. There are semi-naturalistic flowers in 2 shades of blue, two of pink, and light emerald green leaves. There are two repeats in the length of the material.
Technical details
The pattern is made of a satin of 5 ground and reverse satin. The brocaded wefts are bound in 4/1 twill by a proportion of the ground warp threads. The repeate is incomplete in length.
