Object history
This tapestry is one from a set of the story of Abraham. Designs for this subject are first recorded at Mortlake in 1651 when Parliament asked for a survey of Crown Property. The only recorded weaving was ordered in 1657-1658 when Philip Hollenberche was allowed by Parliament to carry it out. Francis Clein was connected with this commission and may have designed the borders for this tapestry.
