Place of origin |
Aubusson carpet with a central decoration, on rust red ground, of two swans with a swag of flowers and a jewelled medallion pendant from a pink ribbon in their beaks. Within the border, still on the rust red ground, are wreaths of flowers in the corners centering on a pink heraldic rose. The wreaths are linked by straight swags of multicoloured flowers with pale blue flowers projecting from them at regular intervals. The same type of flower projects inwards from a formal acanthus sheaf angled from the wreaths in the corners.
The border, on a white ground, has a stylised pink flower in each corner and a rod of the same small pale blue flowers with green and brown leaves along each side. Guard stripes of deep pink (faded lilac) and golden yellow (faded to pale tan) have a row of beads along the inner stripe. Outside the border is a broad edge of dark green faded to pale olive green.
The carpet is tapestry woven, 13 warp threads to inch.
