Tapestry

1628-1661 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Tapestry woven in wool and silk. With a landscape showing a thickly wooded bank on the left with a large tree from the roots of which spread out a large lake with a ready margin. A heron or crane stands under the tree just on the edge of the lake. There are ducks among the reeds. On the right, the late stretches away into the distance where woods and hills are seen. The panel has a wide border. At the corners and in the centre of the lower border are pairs of amorini playing or kissing. In the centre of each side border is an amorino with a bunch of grapes. In the centre of the top border, two armorini hold leafy swags on either side of a head with a caduceus on each side of it. Between the various groups of armorini are flowery scrolls.
