Tapestry. Venus watches Adonis hunting. Woven in coloured wools and silks on woollen warps. 24 warps to the inch. In a verdant landscape with mountains in the background. Adonis in red and blue armed with spear, bow and arrows, encounters Venus seated on the left with cupid and her chariot. Cupid is wounding Venus with an arrow. Adonis's hound pursues a stag into the middle distance. Border of formal leaves bound with ribbon. Mortlake work, red cross on a white shield bottom right hand corner.
