Object history | Gift of the Hon. Lady Beatrix Gatacre, wife of Sir William Forbes Gatacre, K.C.B., D.S.O., 1843-1906. Sir William was posted to India in 1862 and remained serving in the army in India and Burma during most of the period up until 1897. Historical significance: Kamawa-sa: form for the initiation of a layman into the monk-hood; included extracts from the Buddhis scriptures. Given by The Hon. Lady Beatrix Gatacre, 9 Talbot Square, Hyde Park, London, W. This acquisition information reflects that found in the Museum records (Asia Department registers and/or Central Inventory) as part of a 2023 provenance research project. RP M5484-1912 |
