The playful trompe l’oeil design features scattered portraits, genre subjects, maps, songs etc. superimposed on one another at various angles. Among others, there are portraits of Christian VII of Denmark and of John Wilkes; scenes (copied from prints) of the ‘Brentford Election’, ‘A Grown Gentleman learning to dance, a ‘Table of Interest of 100 1 at 5 per cent’, portions of a lottery ticket for 1768, the opening bars and words of ‘The Origin of English Liberty’, a list of ‘Portugal Pieces’. Also, there is the representation of an envelope enscribed ‘To Mr. Joseph Ware Callico Printer Crayford Kent’ and franked with the name of Glyn.
On the margin is stamped ‘…Ware Invt & Excudit’ (Joseph Ware designed and printed).
