Linen embroidered with polychrome silk threads, made in the Vierlande area near Hamburg in Germany. At the top are the letters of the alphabet in two rows, and at the end of the second row is ANNO 1777. The rest of the sampler consists of separate motifs set closely together in horizontal rows, all very geometrical in design. They include trees, plants in pots, trees flanked by birds, roundels and lozenges. The colours are red, blue, green and yellow.
