This silk is based on the painting The Storm by Pierre-Auguste Cot , now in the Metropolitan Museum, New York. It is thought to depict the teenage hero and heroine of the novel Paul and Virginie by Bernardin de Saint-Pierre (1737–1814).

The picture depicts a young man and woman running through a rural landscape with a storm overhead, and a ruined castle in the background. The young man is wearing an animal skin around his waist and has his arm around the young woman, who is wearing a diaphanous white dress. They are holding a cloth above them, which billows in the wind. |
